NSHJA is excited to partner with Albro Creek Farm on the Albro Creek Farm Equitation Series!
Albro Creek Farm Junior A/B/C Equitation Series
Requirements:
- Must be NSHJA member in order for points to count toward Series Awards.
- Classes will be restricted according to the age of the junior rider:
Junior A: a rider who is 15, 16, 17 on January 1
Junior B: a rider who is 12, 13, 14 on January 1
Junior C: a rider who is under 12 on January 1 - Riders may enter just the flat portion but their results will not be recorded for series points.
Heights
Equitation over Fences – Junior B & C Riders:
- Small ponies: 2’3 (0.7 m)
- Medium ponies: 2’6 (0.75m)
- Large ponies: 2’9 (0.85m)
- Horses: 3’ (0.9m)
- Fence heights and distances must be adjusted for the respective hunter heights.
Modified Equitation A Over Fences:
- 3’ (0.9m)– only riders showing in the Children’s Hunter Division may enter
- 3’3 (1.0m)– open to A riders competing at 3’3 height
- 3’6 (1.10m)– open to A riders competing at 3’6 (or above) height
- Any competitors on large ponies will compete at 2’9 height and respective distance.
Tests
Equitation Flat Classes:
Riders to demonstrate Walk, Trot, Sitting Trot and Canter on command, both directions. They shall then line up and the top 4 will be asked to execute individual tests at the judge’s discretion.
No individual test may be requested that is not included in the individual tests in Article G1009, Tests.
The judge may ask questions concerning horsemanship, anatomy of the horse, tack, stable management and others.
For change of direction at the canter (where allowed), the Judge must specify if a change of lead is required.
Flat phase test for each division will be communicated by NSHJA.
Equitation Over Fences Classes:
Riders to compete over a course of not less than 8 jumps. The fall of horse or rider, or two disobediences on course shall cause the entry to be eliminated from the class.
Individual tests may be selected at the Judge’s discretion, from those listed in Article G1009, Tests.
Turnout
A turn out score, on a scale of 1 – 10, will be added to each competitor’s score during the first over fences class.
(Article G1003) While competitors and judges should bear in mind that entries are being judged at all times on ability, it should be noted that neatness is a first requisite regarding rider’s dress.
Jacket – conservative color; jodphurs or breeches; shirt and tie, stocks or chokers must be worn; boots; black or brown smooth leather half-chaps are permissible providing they match the boot color.
Conservative -coloured protective headgear (per Article G1004) with no additional adornments.
Ribbons
All classes will be pinned to 8th place, with ribbons to 6th place. A division champion and reserve champion will be presented for Equitation A/B/C.
Series Awards
Champion and Reserve Champion A, B, and C and Adult Riders will be recognized at the NSHJA Banquet.
Top Junior Equitation Rider will be honoured for the 2025 Series. Top Junior Equitation rider is determined by your top 10 scores based on judges cards (not placings) in any equitation class in throughout the series.
A year end top coach award will be announced at the NSHJA banquet.
Albro Creek Farm Adult Equitation (**2025 Pilot Year**)
Requirements:
- Must be NSHJA member in order for points to count toward Series Awards.
- Classes will be open to all adult amateur riders.
- Riders may enter just the flat portion but their results will not be recorded for series points.
- Over fences portion will be set at 2’6″ height.
- Over fences and flat tests will be taken from Junior A rider tests in Article G1009, Tests (see more details above in junior equitation section).
- A turnout score out of 10 will be given during the over fences portion and will be added to your score (see more details above in junior equitation section).Ribbons only, no division championship or reserve championship.
